ProsperWorks was rebranded in 2018 as Copper. The product wasn’t shut down — it evolved. The original domain was retired, while Copper continued as the same CRM under a stronger, more scalable brand identity.

ProsperWorks was a cloud-based CRM project founded in 2013 with a very clear positioning: a CRM that feels native to Google. Unlike traditional enterprise CRMs, ProsperWorks was built for small and mid-sized teams that lived inside Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive and didn’t want heavy sales bureaucracy.

The product focused on usability over complexity. It automatically captured emails, tracked interactions, synced contacts, and reduced manual data entry — a major pain point in classic CRMs. ProsperWorks intentionally avoided aggressive “sales pipeline theater” and instead positioned itself as a relationship-focused CRM, appealing to founders, agencies, and product-driven teams.

A key differentiator was its deep Google Workspace integration at a time when most CRMs treated Gmail as an add-on rather than a core interface. This made it popular among startups and tech-forward SMBs who wanted lightweight CRM without Salesforce-level overhead.

In 2016, ProsperWorks gained strong validation when it was acquired by Google Ventures (GV). This wasn’t just capital — it reinforced the product’s alignment with Google’s ecosystem and long-term vision. The acquisition accelerated growth, refined UX, and solidified its “CRM for Google users” identity.

ProsperWorks became a notable example of a SaaS that won not by feature bloat, but by choosing a narrow, loyal audience and executing extremely well.
