Abacus

Abacus was a venture-backed SaaS platform for real-time expense management aimed at modern finance teams. It replaced traditional monthly expense reports with a continuous workflow, where employees submitted each expense as it happened instead of compiling large reports at the end of the month.

Users captured receipts via web or mobile, assigned categories, projects, and cost centers, and connected corporate or personal cards. The system applied rules and past behaviour to auto-categorise spending, check it against company policy, and route each item to the correct approver. This reduced manual work, cut reimbursement delays, and gave finance a live, accurate view of company spending.

For controllers and CFOs, Abacus automated reimbursement runs, corporate card reconciliation, and exports into accounting tools like QuickBooks and NetSuite. Dashboards and custom reports helped track burn, budgets, and team trends in near real time. The platform primarily served fast-growing startups and mid-market companies that had outgrown spreadsheets but found legacy travel-and-expense suites too slow, rigid, or painful for everyday use. Abacus positioned itself as a smarter, more flexible layer on top of existing finance stacks, emphasizing policy compliance by default, employee-friendly UX, and truly timely data rather than after-the-fact reporting. It became a reference point for modern expense tools.
