Producteev was a cloud-based task and project management platform launched around 2009. It positioned itself as a simple yet structured collaboration tool for teams that needed visibility without heavy enterprise complexity. The core idea was straightforward: centralize conversations, tasks, and accountability inside shared workspaces.
Users could create tasks, assign owners, set due dates, attach files, and comment directly inside task threads. Producteev supported labels, activity streams, and email integrations, allowing teams to turn email discussions into actionable items. It also offered mobile and desktop apps at a time when cross-platform productivity tools were still maturing, which helped it gain traction among distributed teams and startups.
The interface emphasized clarity over feature overload. Instead of deeply layered project hierarchies, Producteev focused on shared boards and task streams. This made onboarding fast and reduced friction for small and mid-sized teams.
In 2012, Producteev was acquired by Jive Software, which aimed to strengthen its collaboration ecosystem. After the acquisition, the product shifted toward a free model and gradually became less central to Jive’s long-term strategy. Over time, development slowed, positioning weakened, and the platform lost competitive ground against rapidly growing tools like Asana and Trello.
