In 2023, Tempo acquired LiquidPlanner. The standalone product and brand were discontinued, and its technology was absorbed into Tempo’s portfolio planning suite as Portfolio Manager (formerly LiquidPlanner), ending LiquidPlanner’s life as an independent platform.
LiquidPlanner was a professional project management and planning platform built around one core idea: predictive, priority-driven scheduling. Unlike classic task managers that rely on fixed deadlines, LiquidPlanner used dynamic forecasting. Tasks were estimated as ranges, priorities constantly recalculated, and timelines adjusted automatically based on real workload, availability, and dependencies.
The product was designed for engineering teams, agencies, IT departments, and professional services, where uncertainty is normal and static plans break fast. Its strength was answering hard questions managers actually care about: When will this really be done? What happens if we add one more project? Where are we over-committed?
Key capabilities included resource-based scheduling, probabilistic timelines, scenario modeling, and deep workload visibility. LiquidPlanner positioned itself as a tool for serious planning, not lightweight task tracking. It competed more with advanced tools like Microsoft Project than with Trello or Asana.
For years, LiquidPlanner built a loyal niche audience among operations-heavy teams that needed forecasting accuracy rather than simple to-do lists. However, its complexity and higher price point limited mass adoption, making it better suited as a portfolio-level planning engine than a mainstream collaboration app.
